Mukesh Ambani Linked to Proposed US Refinery Project as Donald Trump Highlights Reliance’s Role

A proposed large-scale oil refinery project in the United States has drawn attention after former US President Donald Trump said the initiative could involve partnerships with companies from India, including Reliance Industries, led by chairman Mukesh Ambani.

According to statements cited in media reports, the refinery is planned to be built in Texas and could be valued at around $300 billion (approximately ₹27.7 lakh crore). If completed as proposed, the facility would be the first major new oil refinery built in the United States in roughly five decades.

The project has been described as a significant development for the energy sector, with Trump reportedly calling it a “historic deal.” He noted that companies with experience in large-scale refining infrastructure may play a role in its development.

Industry observers point out that Reliance Industries operates one of the world’s largest refining complexes at the Jamnagar Refinery. The facility processes about 1.4 million barrels of crude oil per day, making it one of the most advanced integrated refining and petrochemical hubs globally.

Reliance’s experience in constructing and managing large refining operations is seen by analysts as a potential factor behind the interest in involving the company in major international projects.

However, details about the structure of the proposed Texas refinery, including confirmed partners, construction timelines, and investment arrangements, have not yet been officially disclosed by the companies involved.

Energy sector experts note that building a new refinery of this scale in the United States would require significant capital investment, regulatory approvals, and long-term planning. Large refining projects also typically involve partnerships between multiple international companies with expertise in engineering, infrastructure development, and crude processing technologies.

If the project proceeds, it could represent one of the largest energy infrastructure investments proposed in the United States in recent decades. Further details are expected as project discussions progress and formal announcements are made by the relevant stakeholders.
